Kimbo Slice is Victorious in an Ugly UFC Debut

"These fine ladies keep me in shape with a jazz-ercise class every Tuesday. Thanks ladies!"

Kimbo Slice proved most MMA observers wrong as he defeated Houston Alexander via unanimous decision

The fight was not the brawl that fans had been sold in the pre-fight press. Instead it was ugly, boring and nearly disastrous UFC debut for Kimbo Slice.

What happened?

Well, Houston Alexander said he didn't want his fight with Kimbo Slice to become a brawl and he followed through on that statement to the extreme. Alexander spent the first two rounds circling around Slice who was befuddled by all the twirling motion. About seven minutes of the first two rounds were spent with Alexander spinning around Kimbo Slice.

In the second round the action finally heated up when Slice secured a takedown. Yes, that sentence is right; a takedown. Kimbo Slice even almost had a submission.

It wasn't until the third round that these "destructive" strikers actually unloaded; though it left the feeling of a gun going off half-cocked as both fighters were already exhausted.

At the end of the day Kimbo won, which on the surface is a victory for Zuffa but Kimbo is little more than a gimmick to secure ratings rather than a legitimate fighter.

So what's next?

Chuck’s gonna be tied up with TUF for a while, and while I think they should book Kimbo against Bones or A-Bomb to get some value out of him he’s technically a heavyweight.

Other than Justin Eilers there’s no one on the heavyweight roster that he’s got a chance against. Hardonk or Barry even seem too dangerous for his knee.

While I’m guilty of saying Houston would destroy Kimbo, and clearly this catchweight fight was a teaser/tune-up/throw-him-a-bone type fight for him, and maybe because I just read Kevin Iole’s article on Dana/Kimbo…I feel I’ve gotta give Kimbo his props for his performance last night. He played it smart, didn’t rush in, didn’t act stupid when the fans started booing. Beyond that, I’m tempted to agree that I can’t see much future for him in the Heavies.
