The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale salaries are now public and based upon base salary Kimbo Slice got a special TUF contract.

  • Roy Nelson* $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win) def. Brendan Schaub $8,000
  • Matt Hamill $46,000 ($23,000 to show, $23,000 to win) def. Jon Jones $20,000
  • Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson $25,000 (no win bonus) def. Houston Alexander $13,000
  • Frankie Edgar* $46,000 ($23,000 to show, $23,000 to win) def. Matt Veach* $5,000
  • Matt Mitrione $16,000 ( $8,000 to show, $8,000 to win) def. Marcus Jones $8,000
  • James McSweeney $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win) def. Darrill Schoonover $8,000
  • Jonathan Madsen $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win) def. Justin Wren $8,000
  • Brian Stann $30,000 ($15,000 to show, $15,000 to win) def. Rodney Wallace $6,000
  • John Howard $14,000 ($7,000 to show, $7,000 to win def. Dennis Hallman $15,000
  • Mark Bocek* $30,000 ($15,000 to show, $15,000 to win) def. Joe Brammer $5,000

*- all fighters received a $25,000 "Fight Night" bonus.

Total salary for the fight card was $426,000. Base salary was $236,000.

Total bonus money including "Fight Night" bonuses was $190,000. Without "Fight Night" bonuses, bonus money was $115,000.

Kimbo Slice received a disclosed salary of $25,000 without a win bonus. This contract flies in the face of how Zuffa treats TUF products who usually receive a $8,000 base salary with a matching win bonus. Clearly the UFC offered Kimbo Slice a special contract outside of the realm of their normal operating procedures. This salary information is indirect evidence of preferential treatment towards Kimbo Slice.

Kimbo Slice received 10.6% of the Finale's base salary. Matt Hamill and Frankie Edgar's salaries individually made up 9.7% of the base pay out. Jon Jones' salary was 8.5% of the total base salary. These four fighters made up 38.5% of the Finale's base salary.

SBN coverage of The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale

After the jump WKR will try out a new feature where we rank the fighters based upon their perceived value to Zuffa (based on "to show" money). Followed by our own rankings.

Star-divide

Value of each fighter for Zuffa according to "to show" money.

Kimbo Slice > Frankie Edgar, Matt Hamill > Jon Jones > Brian Stann, Marck Bocek, Dennis Hallman > Houston Alexander > Roy Nelson, Brendan Schaub, Matt Mitrione, Marcus Jones, James McSweeney, Darrill Schoonover, Jon Madsen, Justin Wren > John Howard > Rodney Wallace

Now this is what WKR believes the ranking should look like

Jon Jones > Frankie Edgar, Matt Hamill > Kimbo Slice > Roy Nelson, Brendan Schaub > Brian Stann, Marck Bocek, Dennis Hallman > Houston Alexander > Matt Mitrione, Marcus Jones, James McSweeney, Darrill Schoonover, Jon Madsen, Justin Wren > John Howard > Rodney Wallace

WKR's Perspective: Kimbo Slice should be paid well due to his drawing power but not above Jones, Hamill or Edgar. Roy Nelson and Brendand Schaub should be paid above the rest of the TUF 10 cast as they reached the final.

I thought it was fairly common knowledge before the season started that Dana said or atleast insinuated that Kimbo was not going to have the typical TUF contract.

At a glance some of those percentages towards the end of the article seem off.

its based on base salary, which is the only guaranteed disclosed money

base salary does not include win bonuses, with win bonuses + base salary the salary for the TUF 10 Finale is $351,000.

No win bonuses and the base salary is $236,000

25,000/236,000 = .1059

23,000/236,000 = .097

20,000/236,000 = .0847

even if you include win bonuses then those four fighters make up 38% of the pay out

kimbo was the only fight that was covered by any mainstream outlet…. hence, kimbo gets and deserves the most money.

part of the rankings I do is based upon skill of the fighter. Yes, Kimbo is a big draw and that’s why I ranked him third but that doesn’t change the fact that he is a pretty poor MMA fighter

So let me ask you? Do you think Brock Lesnar, in his first UFC fight, should of got more money than Tim Sylvia?

by The Bronzeville Bully on Dec 7, 2009 3:13 PM EST up reply actions

First, I knew this “ranking” thing would get people talking and not in the good way but some1 wanted me to keep doing it so oh well.

Your question is tricky due to the whole 20/20 hindsight thing. It is hard to go back in time and put myself in the proper mindset.

I would like to think I would say that Lesnar deserved more at the time then Sylvia (Lesnar was paid 250K compared to 100K for Sylvia) as Lesnar had legitimate background as an NCAA wrestler while drawing fans and clearly had a higher ceiling of possible success than Kimbo does right now.

But again it is hard to put yourself back in time

I was suprised to see Dennis Hallman so high on your list.

well I didn’t split up the 15K group

Gotcha……do you think Hughes will ever ask for that fight again since he doesn’t really plan on facing any of the new crop of up and commers? It is one of the only losses on his record that he has yet to avenge.

by Norm78 on Dec 7, 2009 5:05 PM EST up reply actions

prob not

its a high risk/no reward fight even if it is almost a guaranteed win

That’s seriously got to “F” with a guy though….no?

by Norm78 on Dec 7, 2009 6:11 PM EST up reply actions

prob but I am not sure that a revenge match against a relatively unknown fighter is what Hughes wants
