Gegard Can Only Fight When Fedor Fights
Ariel Helwani reports:
When asked when he expects to fight in MMA again, Mousasi noted that his contract states he can only compete on the same Strikeforce shows that feature his fellow M-1 Global fighter, Fedor Emelianenko.
"So when he fights, I will fight too. But sooner would be also be fine by me," he wrote.
That is bizarre. This clearly was a conceding point on behalf of Strikeforce as they have no gain with this clause. This is unfortunate for fans and the promotion. My guess is M-1's purpose is to build Mousasi by having him fight on Fedor's cards. They are clearly the only two M-1 Global fighters of significant value and the company is going to use them to build up each other and M-1 Global.
Update: Scott Coker talked to Josh Gross and said that Mousasi isn't required to be fight when Fedor does.

And this is why
UFC did not sign Fedor. They basically want to run the company for the right to have Fedor fight 4 or 5 fights.
Hadoken!!

I just looked at your profile. So close. Maybe the first time ever i was puling for Nebraska. If they would have gotten TCU in the Title Game I would have always remembered them for it.

I would love to know why seemingly alpha males like Gegard and Fedor are so vested in M-1. I guess Fedor has some ownership stake, but what’s Gegard’s story. A one point it sounded like he woudl have rather fought for the UFC and was bitter about the SF contract. Why can’t he just come to his own decisions?
