Jon Jones to Challenge Disqualification

Photo by Dave Mandel of Sherdog

MMA Fanhouse is reporting that Jon Jones plans to appeal his disqualification loss to Matt Hamill at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale.

According to Genet, the appeal will come over the issue of whether Hamill was unable to continue because of the illegal strikes, or because of a shoulder injury that he sustained during the fight and later mentioned in his post-fight interview.

...

The rule likely to be challenged is Nevada Athletic Commission rule NAC 467.7966 regarding MMA fouls, which states, "If the unarmed combatant's chance of winning has not been seriously jeopardized as a result of the foul and if the foul did not involve a concussive impact to the head of the unarmed combatant who has been fouled, the referee may order the contest or exhibition continued after a recuperative interval of not more than 5 minutes."

Judging by the NSAC's past rulings --specifically their refusal to rule the Anthony Johnson Kevin Burns fight a "no contest"-- this seems like a loss cause.

There is no currently no timeline for a filing date.

even though i’m basically leaning towards his side…it does seem like a lost cause. and with all the obvious problems with referees and judging, this giant fiasco is just a bit frivolous to me. we know who the dominant fighter was, despite the loss… and he just has to beat the next guy he fights for everyone to forget about it. hell, they should just sign a rematch. though i’m not sure it would be in hammill’s best interests.

He should just move on. This is a misdirection of energy and focus that should be spent on getting ready for his next fight.

asa, I’m sure Jones will be training . . . this is something his management team is taking care of.

The crazy part about the Johnson-Burns eye poke debacle is that the referee later apologized to Johnson. From all the small stories concerning the NSAC they appear to be a bunch of jerks that don’t want to admit any wrong on their part. From small stories in boxing to MMA, like the way they handle Sean Sherk’s steroid incident . . . they’re not overturning anything.

They remind of baseball ownership

refuse to admit wrong and therefore hinders their ability to make appropriate changes. why judging will remain the same baring a strong arm push from the UFC.

seriously how did baseball not implement further replay after the playoff debacles this year. old boys club is why.

This will be one of those L's

that everybody knows is bogus, but remains on the record anyway. The dude is a beast and a legit 205 contender. Let him prove it in his next fight. The way he manhandled Hamill, he’s ready now.
