Female MMA likely to stay out of the UFC/WEC

Fighter_hotties_medium

If Michael Rome's report, regarding the purchase of EliteXC by Strikeforce, proves to be accurate, then it will most likely mean we won't be seeing women in the UFC or WEC anytime soon.

Strikeforce is already promoting a fight between 'Karate Hottie' Michelle Waterson and Tyra Parker on NBC. If Strikeforce secures Gina Carano and Cristine Cyborg from EliteXC then they will be in the process of making the first ever female division. Securing Tara LaRossa would be the next logical step. EliteXC proved that Gina Carano could be a legitimate MMA draw. If Strikeforce secures a spot on CBS, as the report indicates, then women will factor into their presence on network television.

While this may not be a blow to the UFC, some of us were hoping that the WEC would create a female division, further giving uniqueness to the organization, especially since the recent demise of their welterweight division.

Dana likes Strikeforce and all, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he snatched her up.
