Strikeforce in excellent position
Strikeforce's purchase of ProElite has put the organization in a great place to be the #2 MMA promotion in North America. Think of them as the Miller to the UFC's Budweiser.
One thing that is clearly impressive about Strikeforce, is that they will now have a strong presence within several major media organizations. The crown jewel of the ProElite purchase is the existing deal with Showtime and the possibly television deal with CBS. Combine that with Strikeforce's already exisiting deal with NBC as well as being the exclusive partner of ESPN, for martial arts and kickboxing competitions, and it appears that Strikeforce has their hands on a small scale media empire.
Zach Arnold of FightOpinion agrees with this analysis,
Coker's quick rise to getting Strikeforce on NBC, Showtime, and perhaps CBS is remarkable. It should not be discounted by any measure. This is good for MMA.
The more that major media companies have an invested interest in the the success of MMA the more favorable and prominent the coverage will become.
Strikeforce and Showtime have waisted no time in preparing their MMA calenders. Strikeforce has already announced a Showtime event for April 11th featuring former EliteXC middleweight contender, Scott Smith. There was also an announcement that a total of 16 live MMA events will occur annually on Showtime.
