Karo Parisyan suspended by the NSAC for nine months
Sherdog is reporting that the NSAC has suspended Karo Parisyan for nine months, fined him $24,000 and ruled his split decision victory at UFC 94 a no contest, all for testing positive for three painkillers.
At UFC 94 Karo Parisyan defeated Dong Hyun Kim via a split decision. In the aftermath Parisyan tested positive for three opiate painkillers; Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone and Oxymorphone.
At first Karo claimed to have a perscription for the drugs, however now Sherdog is reporting that the positive test was a result of a friend's gift,
However, prior to the Kim fight at UFC 94, Parisyan ingested two pain pills -- later identified as Percocet -- he received from a friend, who had assured him they were the same as what he had been prescribed. Evidently, they were not. His levels of Hydromorphone and Oxymorphone -- the two drugs for which he has no prescriptions -- were described as "very high."
Some friend.
[Update: MMA Weekly is reporting that the fine was $32,000 or 40% of his $80,000 purse. Sherdog is reporting that the fine is $24,000 or 30% of his purse.]
[Second Update: MMA Junkie is also reporting a 40% fine of $32,000]
In other news concering the NSAC, the commission is expected to hand down a ruling regarding the 'grease-gate' controversy from the Penn-St. Pierre fight.
