WEC goes to PPV in June with Faber vs. Brown II
Late last year rumors began to surface that the WEC was preparing to make the transition to PPV. Of course that was when the WEC still had a middleweight and welterweight division. Now the little brother of the UFC features lightweights, featherweights, bantamweights and now flyweights. Some questioned if the WEC had the star power to make the transition, especially after Urijah Faber lost to Mike Brown.
Almost a quarter of the way through 2009 and we finally have news regarding the PPV rumors. Ariel Helwani interviewed WEC VP Peter Dropick and got some answers surrounding the PPV rumors.
Any truth to the rumors that WEC will be making its pay-per-view debut later this year?
Well, it could be as soon as June.
Really?
Yup, we are looking at doing a June one now. It could be as soon as then, if not, my guess is that it would probably be early in the fall. And that would be the (Urijah) Faber - (Mike) Brown rematch.
Since you have no upcoming shows announced would a potential June pay-per-view headlined by Faber vs. Brown II be your next event?
Yes, we would still do a Versus fight earlier in June, and then sometime later on, we would do the pay-per-view.
It will be interesting to see what kind of card the WEC can put to gether for their first ever PPV event. Also there were rumors that it would cost fifty dollars but be more in the thirty-thirty five range.
