Michael Bisping is delirious

Michael Bisping recently said this to Setenta Sports (via MMAforReal)

"Going into the fight I’m very confident. I know he’s going to lose.

"I’m going to be too big for him, too fast, his striking is nowhere near my level, all I’ve got to watch out for is his big right hand out of the clinch.

"As long as I avoid that, it’s my fight to lose."

I hate to disagree with his assessment but here it goes. Bisping and Henderson are equal in size, while Bisping may, and I stress the may, have better striking skills, he has one serious shortcoming he is overlooking, wrestling.

Matt Hamill showed how susceptible Bisping is to a solid wrestler. Hamill was letting Bisping up after taking him down at will over and over again. Any sane person (read as not Cecil Peoples) knows that Bisping lost that fight to Hamill. Now Bisping is going up against a former Olympic wrestler and he thinks he is going to win because of his stand up? Need I remind everyone that Henderson out struck Wanderlei Silva and stood toe-to-toe with Rampage Jackson for five rounds.

Granted I do have an Ohio bias, but I couldn't disagree more with that assessment.

Bisping loses this fight if it’s held ANYwhere outside of the UK.

Gatti. Dekkers. Pele. Aoki. Kang. Vanderlei.

I think his assessment IS right…other than the size thing. Hendo uses the clinch to get most of his takedowns…and does have the big right hand…and that’s about it…so IF Bisping can stay off of his back. He could win the decision as he does have better stand up than Henderson IMO.

but...

Bisping couldn’t stop a takedown against Hamill to save his life.

Hamill was an NCAA division III champion and now Bisping has to deal with an Olympic wrestler.

Henderson will be able to take Bisping down at will.

Now if Hendo is too arrogant to take down Bisping then maybe ‘The Count’ has a chance.

I think Hendo can win this on his fight as well. Bisbing might be a more technical striker but isn’t the hardest hitting guy in the division. I certainly don’t think he has the power to penetrate Hendo’s granite chin. I see Henderson walking through Bisbing’s blows to find a home for that big right hand that Bisbing is always talking about. Also, Bisbing seems to be ignoring the fact that Henderson has a left hand, too, and it is just as capable knocking out over-confident Englishmen.

I like the Count but he’s in over his head in this one.

agreed

After all who has Bisping fought? Uhhhh Matt Hamill and that was a WAY suspect decision. Now he is fighting a guy who has beaten Wanderlei Silva, Rich Franklin, Renato Sorbal, Anotonio Rodrgio Nogueira, Murilo Rua, Renzo Gracie and Vitor Belfort.

Oh yeah he has also fought, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Ricardo Arona, Anderson Silva, Rampage Jackson and split with Kazuo Misaki.

But Bisping has beaten Chris Leben!

Right, I was just pointing out…or trying to point out that Hendo relies heavily on the clinch for takedowns…whereas Hamill is more of a single/double leg guy…

Bisping couldn’t stop a takedown against Hamill to save his life.

That is a good point. But I have faith that an Olympic wrestler will be able to see his opponents weakness.

I obviously have a bias against Bisping, though I do think he is a very good fighter. Your point is correct, Hendo is a clinch guy more than a double/single leg takedown guy.
