UFC Primetime vs. HBO's 24/7

While I was waiting for Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Diaz to come on the tube I decided to watch HBO's main promotional tool for boxing, Pacquiao vs. Hatton 24/7.

After watching the first episode, of a series that began with Mayweather Jr. vs. De la Hoya 24/7, it is easy to conclude that UFC Primetime is a direct rip off. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

The 24/7 shows really do make compelling television, something that is becoming increasingly harder these days. In fact, it is refreshing to see a promotional tool that tries to be smart, entertaining and insightful to something few spectators will really ever understand.

The potential for UFC Primetime to create fascinating narratives and storytelling is a great thing and should be celebrated, even if it was a blatant steal. After all, some sports journalists ~cough, Rick Reilly, cough~ are more interested in the stories than just the sport.

If I remember correctly, the 24/7 people actually made Primetime, so that may be why.
