WKR Prediction: Bisping victory will garner a title shot

Bispingchristopherfurlonggetty_medium

I am going to make a bold prediction here (read as starting a rumor), with really no inside information at all and only my intuition. So go ahead and flame away...

If Michael Bisping defeats Dan Henderson at UFC 100 he will be given a title shot against Anderson Silva in England this fall.

But wait a second, isn't Demian Maia suppose to be next in line for a title shot? Indeed, Maia is rumored to be next in line but after the Thales Leites debacle will make the UFC be cautious before putting another Jiu-Jitsu specialist against Silva. Would they play that card a second time?

Michael Bisping has two advantages that could propel him to a title shot.

Stylistically 'The Count' likes to fight standing and push the action. With Silva's recent track record the UFC may be thrilled to put a fighter in front of him that will actually fight. (The conspiracy theorist in me says that there is no way the UFC will risk their Bisping commodity by putting him against a dangerous striker. But wasn't the goal of protecting Bisping to cash in on a big English PPV?)

Bisping is already talking trash. In his Ultimate Fighter blog, Bisping attacks both Leites and Silva. He also comments that he thought Thales won the first two rounds.

The second advantage is marketability. If Bisping beats Henderson, and I do stress the if, his stock as a fighter will never be higher. Having Micahel Bisping headline a U.K. PPV card with a title shot could be the big money maker and big draw the UFC has been waiting for.

I feel like by writing this I am subscribing to astrology or trusting my gut akin to George W. Bush. But I just can't hep but shake the feeling that with a victory Bisping will be fighting for the title.

I thought it was already confirmed by Dana that the winner gets a title shot.

I don’t believe so. It may have been hinted at but I dont think it has been confirmed.

I know Ben Fowlkes of SI.com and Cagepotato reported that Demian Maia was next in line for a title shot.

It makes sense. Unfortunately, Bisping has about as much chance of beating Hendo as I do.
