5oz. of Pain Needs to Work on Their Titles
Part of the job requirement of being an MMA blogger is to read everything possible about what is happening in the MMA world.
Today I read an interview at FiveOuncesofPain.com that was entitled Ryan Bader: A Force to Reckoned With.
Now I know when you interview a fighter or write a profile you want to take a positive angle or give intellectual weight for its importance. But Ryan Bader: A Force to be Reckoned With, are you freaking kidding me?
Bader has fought twice in the UFC and looks far less impressive then other top light heavyweight prospects like Jon Jones. I want to know when will we get to see the dominant force, that is Ryan Bader, back in the Octagon? Who the fuck knows because the guy basically doesn't have a knee!
Tearing your PCL and MCL is not like Tommy John surgery, where it just happens to everyone eventually. Those are serious injuries that many great athletes struggle to come back from if they aren't career ending. Just look at the NFL and NBA. How many athletes have torn two knee ligaments and come back to be a 'force to be reckoned with'. The lucky ones may achieve 90% of what they once were and even then are looked at as a disappointing. Just look at Carson Palmer's career since 2006.
For god's sakes MMA fans have been tearing into Mauricio Rua for being disappointing in two fights after he tore his ACL and needed surgery, twice!
So let's calm down before we anoint Bader king of all TUF land.
Overall the interview was good stuff, just the title and premise were completely ridiculous. So I am probaly overreacting but seriously, a Force to be Reckoned With?
