Updated USA Today/SBN MMA Rankings

Picture_1_medium

There are updated consensus MMA rankings.

Some of the interesting changes,

  • Heavyweight - Affliction still holds the top three heavyweights. The UFC's Shane Carwin breaks the top-ten with his victory over Gabriel Gonzaga.
  • Light Heavyweight - This division looks exactly how you would expect it to. Chuck Liddell has slid to number ten, while Evans, Jackson and Machida respectively hold the top three spots. Babalu and 'Lil Nog both break the top-ten.
  • Middleweight - To quote Dennis Green "They are who we thought they were!" Nothing much has changed in this division. It wont be until after UFC 100 and 102 that things will start to become clearer.
  • Welterweight - The UFC holds this division in an iron Kung Fu death grip, Jake Shields is the only exception. Martin Kampmann gets in the top-ten at #8 but is still behind the man he just defeated, Carlos Condit. Josch Koscheck slipped to #6 after his knockout loss to Paulo Thiago.
  • Lightweight - Shinya Aoki holds on to the #2 spot despite losing a grappling match to Fedor and being knee'd back into the stoneage. Kenny Florian gets the three spot so we will see him and B.J. Penn battle it out for the top ranked lightweight later this August.
