Sherdog absent from Bellator V
The largest MMA online news outlet was conspicuously missing from Friday night's Bellator event. That's right, Sherdog did not send a reporter to cover Bellator V.
They missed out on one hell of show.
When Bellator announced their tournament format last year most observers thought that lightweights Jorge Masvidal and Eddie Alvarez were destined to meet each other in the finals.
Last Friday both fighters were slated to fight in the semi-finals in Dayton, Ohio. While Alvarez easily defeated Eric Reynolds, Jorge Masvidal failed to live up to his end of the bargain losing to Toby Imada. It wasn't just that Masvidal lost in an upset, which was news unto itself, it was the fact that he was defeated in the most improbable and bizarre submissions in recent MMA history. Yet Sherdog wasn't there to experience what some called 'the submission of the decade.'
Why would the largest MMA online media outlet skip out on a fight card that featured the #5 ranked lightweight in the world? I couldn't tell you, though one Bellator official said that Sherdog has all but ignored the organization since their first show.
WKR twice contacted Sherdog for an official comment regarding their decision not to attend Bellator V and we received no response.
