New Country, same old opposition
(Thanks to Robert for passing this along.)
It appears that the UFC's first show in Germany is receiving some good ole political grandstanding by the local city council.
In a recent article (translated by Robert of bigoddsmike.com) the Cologne city council appears to be less than thrilled about the prospect of hosting UFC 99 in their city.
The dispute however is much easier to describe, the arena management are currently taking legal action against comments made by councilor Manfred Wolf. Arena is alleging defamation and slander.
"MMA is not a sport because it legitimatizes death and serious injury. The only aim is to destroy your opponent." Adding further: "I personally find disgusting ... Here one finds the lowest human instincts. "
The City Councilor has made it clear that is does not want to hold a major mixed martial arts event because of the harm it could cause to the city's image.
I missed these arguments. It's 1998 all over again, except this time in German, Schnell!
UFC 99 is slated for June 13th and features a main event bout between former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin and former Pride light heavyweight champion Wanderlei Silva.
Got to love the Germans being opposed to the 'lowest human instincts'.
I will let Family Guy offer my rebutal.

That’s right. Central Europe, home to more wars than anywhere else on the planet over the past few centuries, is here to set us all straight about violence and human instincts. Yep.
