EA announcing MMA video game
GamersDailyNews is reporting that EA will announce a new MMA video game later today.
The title at the moment is EA Sports MMA, and know it will be available on the PS 3 and Xbox 360. I can't seem to get any further details at the moment, but I'll let you know what I hear at the press conference this afternoon.
The major video game conference E3 is just around the corner and it appears that EA is making this announcement to generate hype for some of their big 'reveals'.
As MMA and UFC fans know THQ currently holds the rights for the Ultimate Fighting Championship and their first title UFC 2009 Undisputed initially appears to be a big success. However THQ is in the midst of a major shake up and whether the company will survive over the long haul is still an unknown.
EA's announcement may be an indication that the industry feels THQ may be continuing their downward slide and thus EA is positioning themselves to have access to a major license which may not require them to buy the original asset from a competitor.
There is also the possibility that another promotion is teaming up with EA. Whether these are direct competitors, like Strikeforce or Bellator, or whether it is another brand under the Zuffa LLC, like World Extreme Cagefighting, is currently unknown.
WKR will keep a close eye on EA's announcement.
