TUF 9 Episode 11 Recap: Dislocated Shoulders be Damned

Disloc_xray_medium

The episode takes no time in getting to the next semi-final bout between Team U.K. member, Andre Winner and Team U.S. member, Cameron Dollar.

Cameron is suffering from a lingering rib injury and tries to take it easy during sparring sessions. Cameron comments that if he takes a body shot he is afraid he will "fold in half."

Jason Peirce's treachery reels its ugly head again in Team U.K.'s training session as Andre Winner recalls some advice "Benedict" gave him to Michael Bisping.

I still think it is important to point out that the producers and editors have chosen to omit any confessional interview by  Jason Pierce denying or confirming his actions. Since this is a reality show with weekly or daily interviews from the producers, it is highly unlikely they didn't ask him about the treason issue. Yet the Spike producers have omitted any comments, which is suspicious. While it certainly appears that Pierce is a 'traitor' it would be wise to reserve final judgement until he has a chance to speak.

On to the fight.

Cameron started out strong but after catching an uppercut he decides to take the fight to the ground. It was at this point where Winner's superior size and strength shined. Cameron was unable to take Andre down. Cameron held onto a single leg while eating punches. When Cameron finally tried to complete the takedown he ended up Winner's guard where he was submitted by triangle choke.

Andre Winner moves on to the TUF 9 Finale on June 20th. His opponent is yet to be determined.

After the bout we immediately go to Team U.K.'s training session for lightweight Ross Pearson in his fight against Jason Dent. Everything appears normal until Pearson pops his right shoulder out. Michael Bisping helps set the shoulder and Ross gets up apparently unfazed. In a confessional interview Pearson says the shoulder dislocation is a lingering injury and happens all the time. Hopefully the British healthcare system can fix that problem.

With half an hour left its on to the fight (me thinks this will be a three rounder).

Ross Pearson won the first round with more effective striking and dominating the clinch game. Jason Dent was able to land punches but they weren't nearly as damaging as Pearson's. Once again the American was the weaker of the two fighters allowing Pearson to be so effective in the clinch.

The second round was more of the same with Pearson once dominating the striking until the alst ninety seconds where Dent unleashed a fury of punches. It wasn't enough though as Ross was able to take Dent down and land several punches before the end of the round.

Dent has to finish the fight this round if he wants to go to the finals. Jason starts the third round strong landing a combination. But Pearson responds by taking Dent down for some ground-and-pound. The rest of the round features Pearson dominating Dent on the ground. With Pearson's unanimous decision victory.

Dana White heaps nothing but praise on Dent for his valiant effort.

It's an all U.K. lightweight final with Ross Pearson and Andre Winner. Next week we will find out who will fight welterweight finalist, and Team U.S. member, DeMarques Johnson.
