Mercer vs. Sylvia turns into an MMA fight

I think we can all agree that Tim Sylvia vs. Ray Mercer boxing match is a bad idea. 

Mercer and Sylvia were suppose to headline MMA Adrenaline's third event in New Jersey this weekend. Then the fight was moved to Alabama because the New Jersey State Athletic Commission wouldn't sanction the bout. 

Luckily it appears that the fight won't be a boxing match,

Late Wednesday, the Association of Boxing Commissions stepped in to nix the bout, citing improper supervision, a move that prompted Cox to again revert to mixed martial arts rules and eliminate the involvement of the ABC. 

Unfortunately the promoter has changed the rules again and it will now be an MMA fight. Alabama doesn't have a regulatory body to oversee the bout. 

Mercer has never fought an official MMA bout though he did fight Kimbo Slice in an exhibition bout.
