News coming out of TUF 9 Finale
The UFC had a brief infomerical/interview during Saturday night's TUF 9 finale where former TUF winner, Amir Sadollah "asked questions" to UFC president, Dana White. The result was a healthy chunk of news and items to speculate on.
- White announced Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua fight for UFC 104 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Everyone saw this fight coming because there was literally no one else to fight Machida. There are still some questions surrounding Rua who fought poorly against Mark Coleman right after recovering from two knee surgeries. But as fightlinker said, "But of course Shogun is now a COMPLETELY different fighter than he was 5 months ago. Didn't you see him beat Chuck Liddell??? "
- The most interesting piece of information that White announced was the possibility of the UFC signing Vitor Belfort to fight Anderson Silva. First of all, It shows that the UFC is not sold on their current crop of middleweights. Maybe they think they are talented but not sold enough to headline a PPV against "The Spider." Pessimists will think that this is the UFC simply trying to steal their competitor's talent. Whether this is serious foreshadowing by the UFC or just a ploy we will have to wait to find out.
- Dana White also explained the Forrest Girffin - Anderson Silva fight at UFC 101 and the reasoning behind the match up.
- Dana White backed off the Chuck Liddell retirement talk but looks really, really worn out by the whole affair. Who does Chuck fight then and on what card? December against Tito Ortiz sounds good to me.
- Finally the Sadollah "interview" shows that the UFC is more than prepared to go around traditional (there isn't any traditional MMA media) and nontraditional (blogs/websites) forms of the media and keep announcements and information in house. It also highlighted their strategy of "prepping" the fanbase for future events.
