TUF 9 Episode 10 Recap: Turncoat

Benedictarnold_medium

Is Jason Pierce a traitor to team U.S.?

The latest episode of The Ultimate Fighter certainly portrays Pierce as the next American to betray his country in favor of the English crown.

First we see Ritchie Whitson and Jason Pierce get in a confrontation over Pierce's un-strategic retreat from competition. In the aftermath we see Pierce describing grappling techniques to a team U.K. member David Faulkner. Then there is a cutaway to Whitson saying, "he [Jason Pierce] is Team U.K. he is no longer Team U.S. I don't know why they would even want him." From there we hear that from Whitson's mouth that Pierce may of given up the goods on the Team U.S. fighter.

This episode doesn't answer the question of whether or not Pierce is actually the next  Benedict Arnold or Simon Girty. Instead team U.S. coach, Dan Henderson, confronts Pierce who promptly denies any wrong doing.

From there it is on the semi-final bouts. Dana White briefly argues for both teams fighters to face each other that way to ensure a U.K. vs. U.S. finale. White orders both coaches to remain silent and it appears that White will follow through with the decision. As the fights are about to be announced we see Dan Henderson politely flip the bird to the UFC president. Then White announces the semi-final bouts and it is revealed that neither team will have to fight each other.

Welterweight Semi-finals

Nick Osipczak (3-0) vs. Damarques Johnson (10-6)
James Wilks (5-2) vs. Frank Lester (3-2)

Lightweight Semi-finals

Andre Winner (9-2-1) vs. Cameron Dollar (2-1)
Ross Pearson (8-4) vs. Jason Dent (18-9)

Nick and Damarques are set to fight first. Before the fight Damarques Johnson was featured in a great little prayer/training montage.

While the first round was extremely entertaining, with Nick coming back to rock Damarques, the rest of the fight was clearly in Damarques' favor who ended up winning the decision and moves on to The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale.

On a personal note it is haunting and yet strangely satisfying to see Charles 'Mask' Lewis in each episode. Refreshing to see someone involved in something that they are passionate about. Haunting due to a life cut tragically short. Unfortunately each appearance and glimpse leaves me wanting more and that will never happen.

yeah, the episode did answer the question- that mf jason pierce was definitely a turncoat, and a snitch and a backstabber and a woman. Nick said to his trainer that he gotten some good intel out of pierce about demarques like:

1. he hadn’t been training for three days.
2. he always looks to throw certain combos
3. he’s an average wrestler.
Pierce is a b@#*@ made white boy, the type that end up working for the for the feds or the IRS.

I tried to be fair

This is reality TV and producers can be creative with editing. The fact that Pierce wasn’t given his turn to respond in the confessional to me means that there is still some grey area left.

That being said. He is probably a snitch

I first thought that the “every-man-for-himself” rule or “mma-is-not-a-team-sport” rule might apply here….but naaah, he’s just a dick…he’s got what he thinks is inside information and he’s giving to the other team for their benefit. That just sucks no matter how you slice it.
