Nick Diaz vs. Joe Riggs set for August

5789-strikeforcelogo_medium
Nick Diaz and Joe Riggs will fight at Strikeforce's upcoming August event.

Both fighters recently fought at Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields. Nick Diaz scored a third round TKO victory over Scott Smith and Joe Riggs won an unamious decision against Phil Baroni. Riggs went to the hospital after the Baroni fight claiming that he had broken both of his hands. With such a shot turn around it appears that Riggs did not suffer any broken bones.

Diaz and Riggs met before at  UFC 57where Riggs won a narrow decision.

Both fighters will join a Strikeforce card that will be headlined by the first ever female championship fight between Gina Carano and Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos. Gilbert Melendez and Josh Thomson will also fight for the Strikeforce lightweight title in the co-main event.

Good point about the quick turnaround must = no broken bones. I remember thinking that he wasn’t fighting like he had 2 broken hands.

Looks like another decent event for Strikeforce.

it is another good card, but a bad sign for strikeforce. It shows how thin their roster is because they are turning these guys around for every major show. Diaz fought shamrock, smith, and now riggs in 4 months

You’re right…but I think if they can do it just long enough, they can attract additional talent. Let’s hope anyway. Those cut by the UFC and and other up-and-comers that need big fights, this could be their promotion.

as long as the UFC cuts talent (and they will) there can be a successful 2nd tier organization.

The trash talk for this fight will be epic.
