Rampage vs. Evans in Memphis this December
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson announced (via a youtube video) that he will fight Rashad Evans in Memphis, Tennessee this December
Jackson and Evans are currently coaches on the 10th season of The Ultimate Fighter and are slated to fight each other after the season ends. Evans is coming off of a loss to the new light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. Jackson recently defeated Keith Jardine and had a chance to fight Machida for the title but past it up for the option of coaching on the reality show and fighting Evans. Jackson cited their memorable UFC 96 stare-down as the reason for passing on the title shot.
Jackson is also a native of Memphis, Tennessee.
The UFC held their first event in Tennessee earlier this year with an Ultimate Fight Night in Nashville, which was headlined by Martin Kampmann and Carlos Condit.
Usually the UFC holds a major event at the end of December in Las Vegas. The fight in Memphis could alter the UFC's normal operations. However, as MMA Junkie reports, an unusual end of the year calender may cause a re-shuffle in the UFC's end of the year plans,
UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner today confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that a Memphis show will take place at the 19,000-seat FedExForum in "early December," but he declined to comment on the potential Evans vs. Jackson bout.
Based on the odd year-end schedule (with both the Christmas and New Year's holidays falling on Fridays), Memphis could be the UFC's year-end show. The event would likely take place on Dec. 12 or 19 (since The Ultimate Fighter 10 is already slated for Dec. 5).
Ratner said the traditional year-end blockbuster, UFC 108, might instead take place Jan. 2 in Las Vegas
