Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir and UFC 100 Hangover

Coors_light_girls_medium

(Brock Lesnar mad at Bud Light! Bud Light no have painted girls! That's why Brock Lesnar drink Coors Light!)

Some thoughts while I recover from my UFC 100 hangover...

- For those looking for quick results and a traditional recap as well as more UFC 100 coverage.

- Brock Lesnar destroyed Frank Mir, which is exactly what was suppose to happen the first time they fight. Lesnar is now the undisputed heavyweight champion. He also has a bone to pick with Bud Light and most UFC sponsors. I wonder if Dana White kicks him out of the UFC for a day like he did with Jon Fitch.

- Brock Lesnar beats Frank Mir, goes on tirade, MSNBC has controversial headline, sigh.

- Brock Lesnar is a physical freak, doesn't mean he puts on aesthetically pleasing MMA fights though.

- I really hope that Lesnar doesn't become the athletic face of the UFC.

- Speaking of faces look at Frank Mir's...

200907120005003223358-pf

Ouchies!

- Damn you UFC and Bruce Buffer! How do you not have the "Buffer 360" on camera? Besides you can't do it for Brock Lesnar. MMA fans don't like him. Oh well, I am still glad it happened.

- Jon Fitch cannot escape relegation! His fight with Paulo Thiago was pushed after the main event. Stupid video game liense.

- Georges St. Pierre made his case to be considered the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world after he defeated Thiago Alves. Considering the division he fights in its hard to argue against him.

- St. Pierre pulled that victory off with a pulled groin. I can't get out of bed with a tweaked groin....(thinks about it)....Forget I wrote that.

- The inevitable St. Pierre Anderson Silva mega-fight talk started in-between rounds three and four yet St. Pierre seemed very disinterested. Perhaps he is getting advice outside of the UFC to protect his brand by not moving up in weight?

- I think that St. Pierre-Alves fight is the perfect technical battle clinic for casuals to learn more about what it means to be an MMA fighter and fan.

- Georges St. Pierre's takedown in the fourth round was so quick, powerful and effortless. Truly remarkable.

- Greg Jackson was talking to GSP as if he were a four year old. Awkward.

- St. Pierre utilized the same strategy he used against B.J. Penn but slightly modified. Instead of being aggressive with the striking to set up the takedown he is sitting outside and countering to set up the takedown. On the ground the plan appeared to be designed to drain as much energy out of the bigger Alves.

- Alves appears to be zero threat from his back but he was able to get up after takedowns, quickly at times. Still this fight showed that you have to be extremely well-rounded to be a champion not just a specialist.

- Love 'Ole chants in any sporting event. Really love them for GSP fights.

- Apparently Alves is +200lbs. Could be scary...Nah!

- Pacing wise I liked the choice of having the welterweight title fight before Thiago-Fitch. When I wrote that line I didn't know that the UFC was simply behind schedule and Thiago-Fitch was set for after the main event. I guess this is what happens when you have a lot of decisions and two title fights.

- Michael Bisping was knocked out all the way back to England. REMEMBER MATT HAMILL!

- In the battle of Team U.K. vs. Team America I declare Team America the winner. F*** Yeah!

- No title shot for Michael Bisping. Guess that means Demian Maia and Nate Marquardt could be fighting for a title shot at UFC 102...

- Dan Henderson grinned at Michael Bisping's sloppy shot at the end of round one. Don't worry Michael, everything is going according to plan.

- Can we call Dan's big right hand Hendooo Punch!

- Bisping failed in a very basic part of his approach, he didn't take account for Henderson's powerful right hand. Now whether this is an indictment on "The Count" or his gym, Wolfslair, is up for debate.

- The big question coming out this fight is whether Dan Henderson crossed the line by hiting Bisping once he was knocked out.

- Alan Belcher is one of the most puzzling fighters in the UFC. Perhaps he has turned a corner but he went from getting his ass kicked by Jason Day to beating Denis Kang to beating losing to Yoshirio Akiyama. I just don't know what to think.

Star-divide

- Belcher vs. Akiyama controversial decision? I can see why people thought Belcher won. Alikiyama clearly won round two while the other two rounds are up for debate, well, sort of. Belcher knocked Akiyama down in the first, which usually entails the round being scored against the fighter who was downed. Yoshirio did rebound during that round but enough to earn it? The third round was dominated by Belcher striking thought Akiyama did tag the Biloxi native on several occasions. The key was the late takedown. That was enough for one judge to score the bout in "Sexyama's" favor.

- "Sexyama" may not be that sexy after Belcher kicked his balls off.

- Did you know that there is a guest "Octagon Girl" and its Holly Madison! Holy crap! I can't believe a D-list celebrity wanted to be involved in UFC 100.

- Yoshirio Akiyama entrance included a brief prayer. Buddhism for the win!

- Alan Belcher's tattoo is so ugly. At least he entered to "The Hurricane" by Bob Dylan.

- I was completely wrong about Coleman vs. Bonnar and Goldie was completely right. I apologize good sir.

- I don't want to go all Jerod Morris but are Bonnar's past indiscretions going to over shadowed what he accomplished right after The Ultimate Fighter season one?

- Mac Danzig has not lost three in a row and hasn't looked good in the UFC since beating Tommy Speer. Will he be cut by the UFC? That would make him the first TUF winner (not including TUF 4: The Comeback fighters) to be let go by the UFC.

- What is with the cage side doctor not stopping fights from cuts? Apparently Mac Danzig's face wouldn't stop bleeding.

- Tom Lawlor is weird. Really, really weird.

- C.B. Dollaway has zero Jiu-Jistu game. At least he didn't phantom tap this time. And this guy was suppose to be the TUF-7 ringer. The show has really sucked talent-wise the past couple of years.

- Tom Lawlor had one of the most memorable entrances in some time. Let me paint the scene: The music is "Who let the Dog's Out" his training partner Seth Petruzelli (yes, that Seth Petruzelli) came out on all fours with a chain around his neck and bone in mouth.

- This was the first time since UFC 68 that I sat around all day doing absolutely nothing in anticipation for UFC 100. I felt like an amorphous blob, oh well.

based on how bloody the octagon floor was, why did we watch a boring grappling match with fitch doing what he always does (lay on top) against Thiago…..the prelims were OBVIOUSLY exciting bloodbaths. le sigh.

Gatti. Dekkers. Pele. Aoki. Kang. Vanderlei.
