Cage Cast 16: UFC 100 Recap
There was so much UFC 100 to talk about we split it into two podcasts.
To hear WKR's recap of the main events and Dan Henderson vs. Michael Bisping check out episode 15. You can stream Cage Cast here, or subscribe to our RSS feed. Don't forget to check us out on iTunes and please leave a review.
First we talk about Paulo Thiago and Jon Fitch. This fight was suppose to happen before the main events but was relegated to the back of the card out of time concerns. WKR asks the question what is next for Jon Fitch? Also we discuss Paulo Thiago's future. Are his 15 minutes up or will the UFC try to build him up into a top-ten welterweight.
Next we talk about the controversial split decision that started off the PPV card.
Was Alan Belcher screwed? The main sticking point was the one 30-27 score in favor of Akiyama, which seemed totally out of place. WKR tries to parse the fight and figure out who won.
The theme of the undercard was potential retirement for a lot of fighters. UFC hall-of-famer, Mark Coleman, managed to stave off retirement by beating Stephan Bonnar. Bonnar's loss now calls into question his career and how prolific his steroid use was before testing positive at UFC 62. Is Bonnar's UFC run coming to a close? What is in store for the 44 year old Coleman?
Next up is a rant against season six and season seven of The Ultimate Fighter as season six winner, Mac Danzig, was handled by IFL veteran Jim Miller. Danzig has now dropped three in a row, does this mean he is headed to the WEC? He did already drop weight once so he might not be able to do it again.
Season seven ringer, C.B. Dollaway, was submitted in a minute. WKR hopes Dollaway will take some time off to learn this thing called "submission defense."
WKR also talks about Tom Lawlor's antics and how he is the new Akihiro Gono.
WKR briefly discusses Shannon Gugerty and Dong Hyun Kim's victories.
The last fight we talk about is Jon Jones victory over Jake O'Brien. WKR thinks that Jones will be built up slowly as the top of the division still has plenty to work out. WKR asks the question of "who's next for this top prospect?"
Finally WKR wraps it up by talking about the epic fail that was the "Buffer 360." How is there not a UFC camera on Buffer so you can at least put it on-line. Why did Buffer do it for Lesnar, a man despised by some MMA fans, which led to the appearance of it being received poorly. You broke Zak's heart and he wants to talk to you Bruce!
