Is this the end for Stephan Bonnar?
The conventional wisdom surrounding the Mark Coleman Stephan Bonnar fight was that the 44 year old Coleman would gas quickly and Bonnar would easily get back on the winning track.
Coleman proved all of us, especially me, wrong.
While Coleman demonstrated that he still has some gas left in the proverbial tank his opponent, Stephan Bonnar, may be completely left in the lurch.
Bonnar is now 2-4 in his past six fights and is currently on a two fight losing streak. Before the fight there were a few whispers that if Bonnar lost he could find himself out of a job. Many thought such a scenario, if true, didn't deserve discussion as Bonnar was a huge favorite (his odds were -325). Now that reality has come to pass and many will anxiously await what will happen to "The American Psycho".
Besides the questions of employment there are far more serious issues facing the TUF alum. Perhaps mixed martial arts has passed Stephan by? After all, many in Xtreme Couture decided to train Mark Coleman as oppose to Bonnar.
Zach Arnold delves into the split at Xtreme Couture,
Coleman's comments should definitely raise some questions about not only Xtreme Couture but also Shawn Tompkins. Factually-speaking, what does it say that Couture and Tompkins decided to train Coleman and leave Bonnar to train on his own with a couple of Xtreme Couture guys at another gym? Isn't that a proverbial slap in the face to Bonnar? What kind of a statement are you making to Stephan Bonnar by saying that you're choosing to train a 44-year old MMA fighter over a guy who, on paper, supposedly might have a longer shelf life in MMA?
A troubling question indeed but not the worst question facing Bonnar right now.
I don't want to go all Jerod Morris, but Stephan Bonnar did test positive for steroids at UFC 62 and with his recent 0-2 slide the old questions should be reexamined. Did Bonnar simply use the drugs this one time in an attempt to beat his old TUF nemesis or was he doping earlier in his career? Were the injuries he sustained later a result of steroid use? Is Bonnar's current troubles a result of drug use?
We will never know for sure but for a fighter who appeared to be a rising UFC star with a bright future the star may have gone nova long ago.

Too bad...
I like Bonnar a lot…hope the steroid issue was only injury related. He really needs to shore up his wrestling and re-evaluate his career.

i like bonnar..but i picked coleman to win. also won a few hundred on the betting game with that fight! haha…i think bonnar just hasnt evolved his game, i dont think steroids has much to do with it. i noticed most guys that get busted for roids also lose there fight. more than likely he wont be cut yet, but im sure he might be burried on the undercard of european cards from now on
I picked Coleman too
Zach Krantz: Bonnar via Coleman heart attack Round 2 (If this happens I will never forgive myself).

LOL. Didn’t I say Bonnar sucks against wrestlers, Zak? and you ripped Goldie? I am mad I didn’t go with my instincts and put 100 at the sportsbooks

After getting knifed in the back like that, I think Bonnar should look for a new gym. Loss to Coleman or not, I think he should still be able to find a new team. It’s not like he owes any loyalty to a gym that throws him out to train his opponent.

I think Bonnar started training there. I dont know if he claims that his camp, but I dont remember Tompkins being in his corner against Jones
