Around SBN: Tiger Woods Makes His 2012 PGA Tour Debut

Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn't think much of this "MMA"

Note: There is an error with the video right now so I put up this portion of the interview. The link below takes you to where they discuss MMA.

I have missed some good old fashion"MMA is the red-headed step child of boxing" talk.

Fortunately for me Floyd Mayweather Jr. decided to fill this void in my life.

For those that can't watch the video here are some of Mayweather's comments.

"It takes true skills to be in the sport of boxing, and-and Mixed Martial Art is for beer drinkers, boxing is for everbody. This is-uh, you can't take my shoes off and take my shirt off and just throw me in a cage. You do that with animals [pause] you can't [pause] you don't do that with humans."

I know for a fact that boxing events have long been a beacon of prohibition in America.

"I don't know no fighter in MMA that generated a total revenue in two fights, which only lasted one hour in two fights, generated a total revenue of two hundered and fifty million dollars. They aren't even on my level, at all.

Absolutely right Floyd. You in fact do make a shit-ton more money than any MMA fighter.

"You must be running eight and nine miles for boxing yoyu must be able to box not five rounds tweleve, twelve. And it used to be fifeteen... Now that got rounds now they got judges now they got cutmen. So once again MMA stole boxing's whole blue print and run with it."

I am not sure what the eight/nine mile running threshold is about. If an MMA fighter runs 10 miles does that make them better than a boxer? What if they compete in a triatholon, like Nick Diaz?

"Like I said before, in boxing we know who is dominanting, black fighters and hispanic fighters is dominating in this sport. And this is not a racial statement but there's no white fighters in boxing that's dominating. So they had to go to somehting else and start something new."

Ah, some good old race baiting. I thought this was reserved for the Sotomayor hearings but I guess Mayweather is trying to channel boxing's most famous race exploiter, Muhammad Ali

Someone should tell Floyd about the following MMA champions who are not white (or the fact that middleweight boxer, Kelly Pavlik is white).

Lyoto Machida - Brazilian
Anderson Silva - Brazilian and Black
B.J. Penn- Hawaiian

While Brock Lesnar is traditional WASP Scandinavian American Georges St. Pierre is French Canadian.

Ultimately Mayweather's comments don't really matter as they are simply designed to discredit what he feel is his competition while simultaneously build interest for his fight.

wow - he turned himself into a bit of a joke with those comments

shows he doesn’t understand combat as an art, and treats boxing as some sort of status hierarchy where only some are allowed (because they have skill in a single area). Interesting.

arent the klitchko bros white?

i mean i know there russian but still they are white and they are dominating the heavyweight ranks in boxing…also im not surprised that mayweather is bashing mma, i mean didnt he try to get someone to put him in the cage? i had heard hdnet fights was possible a year or so ago. what weight class does he box in? dana should do a one fight contract with him and make him fight a pure wrestler and just ground and pound the shit outta him for 5 rounds!! (gotta be five rounds just cuz he thinks 12 3min rounds are harder)

Well, time for Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta to take Sean Sherk to another one of Mayweather’s fights and watch “Money” start backpeddling again.

garbage

floyd, stick head in sand is worth talking about? i dont think so. he’s ducked so many good fights, he’s the biggest joke that makes boxing look so bad. it’s funny seeing a garbage boxer attacking mma. i’d love to see this idiot fight in mma, but he knows he’d be ko’d the first time.

um...

He’s a white guy. If I was walking down the street and no idea who was I’d say, “That’s a white dude.” Race is completely a perception. That’s the reality of the perception.

And what exactly is an “enthnic” minority?? LOL

yeah...

After I posted enthnic minority I really wished we had a edit comment fuction ~sigh /fail

Anyways, I do think St. Pierre is different bc he is French Canadian. At the least that makes him a non-speaking European descendant. And Mayweather’s point was along the lines of “white Americans.”

I think it speaks volumes about MMA fans that many of our Fav fighters are not white nor American

ARRGGHH

What a prat, he must be struggling if he has to get racial. But just to remind him, Joe Calzaghe (who was p4p better than Mayweather in many peoples opinions), Wladimir Klitschko, Vitali Klitschko, Kelly Pavlik, Tomasz Adamek, Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler etc. well……they are all white and none of them would resort to Mayweathers trash. I dont think top Black and Hispanic boxers (bar Hopkins) would appreciate his comments either!

Romario got it right, and I’d like to add Marciano to that list.
