Alistair Overeem withdraws from Strikeforce fight
MMA Fanhouse is reporting that Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem, has withdrawn from his title fight with Fabricio Werdum.
"[Mike] Afromowitz (Strikeforce director of communications) said that the reason for the withdrawal was that the hand infection Overeem suffered following his May altercation in an Amsterdam nightclub has not fully healed.
Afromowitz added that Fabricio Werdum is still scheduled to compete on the card, but no opponent has officially been signed."
The altercation that the Fanhouse report is referring to is a nightclub brawl that involved Overeem and his brothers.
Werdum's continued presence on the card raises the question of who will be his opponent. Brett Rogers is an obvious choice but now that Overeem is out perhaps Strikeforce will be preparing for Rogers to fight Overeem as was originally intended.

This is such crap! Overeem hasn’t fought in Strikeforce in over a year and a half and hasn’t ONCE defended that title. If there was ever a case for interim title, this is it. Give Rogers the fight with Werdum and make it for a interim title. If Overeem retires due to injuries, or heads to the UFC, which has been long rumored, then christen the champ undisputed. Either way, Strikeforce needs a heavyweight champion who will actually fight for them, and I’m pulling for “The Grimm” personally.
