Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

CSAC says it was a random test, Josh Barnett says it was not

"What does the pink one do again?"

Ariel Helwani of MMA Fanhouse talked CSAC assistant executive officer, Bill Douglas and in the course of their interview Douglas commented that Barnett's drug test was random.

Bill Douglas: And it just so happens that the first one [random drug test] we've ever done here in California produced a result.

Ariel Helwani: This is the first one ever?
Bill Douglas: First one ever. I mean, right out of the gate.

Ariel Helwani: That's incredible.
Bill Douglas: It's unbelievable.

However Josh Barnett's Myspace post claims that the test was not random and was part of his license renewal process.

Hopefully the assistant executive officer is right because it would look really bad if he is wrong about why the test was administered and it would definitely further the story line that the CSAC has issues with their drug testing.

Ahhh… it’s nice to see my OOC article has been validated after I received some resistance due to Josh Barnett’s comments.

Something Else

Something else interesting came out of that interview. Helwani asked if there would be resistance from the CSAC to approving a Belfort/Emelienko fight due to the size differential.

Would you have an issue if his opponent were to be Vitor Belfort, considering the fact that he was supposed to fight at 185 pounds and would now be fighting a heavyweight?
It’s hard for to me say about that at this time, but considering the other two names that I’ve seen there, I think it’d be likely that the other two be a lot easier to approve at this point than that one. Not to say that’s it’s not an approvable fight; there are just a lot of questions that need to be asked. There would be some quick decisions that would need to be made, and until we have something concrete, we are not prepared to move in that direction. Not to say that it wouldn’t, it’s just that we don’t have anything concrete at this time.

That doesn’t sound to me like getting Belfort approved quickly is going to be as easy a we all think.

it depends how much weight he can put on in short time. Fedor is obviously not a huge heavyweight so it could happen. It would unfortunately ruin one of the two other fights i really wanted to see.

when is the last time Fedor had to cut weight. The Sambo tournaments have been open weight, i think.

Tompkins said Belfort is at 200 right now. Add 10 to 15 in 10 days, and Fedor is a lighter heavyweight at 230… it’ll be approved.
