Affliction "Trilogy" Cancelled
From SI.com
In a matter of days Affliction Entertainment's "Trilogy" event when from promising the top heavyweight fight in mixed martial arts to being cancelled outright, multiple sources confirmed to SI.com Friday morning.
Affliction Entertainment vice president began making calls with the news Friday morning to fighters scheduled to appear on the Aug. 1 card, SI.com has learned.
The abrupt change comes in the wake of 31-year-old Josh Barnett testing positive for banned substances following a California State Athletic Commission pre-fight drug test.
Really it was just a matter of time for Affliction. There was no good choices as their third fight card seemingly disintegrated before everyone's eyes.
After Barnett tested positive for steroids Affliction VP, Tom Atencio, was scrambling to find a replacement in just ten days. Middleweight Vitor Belfort reportedly stepped up to the plate but Fedor's camp made their desire to fight Brett Rogers clear. In the end perhaps Fedor didn't sign on to fight Belfort and that killed the card.
There is no word as to why Affliction couldn't get Rogers, though it was rumored Rogers was asking for $800,000 to fight Fedor on top of a rental fee demanded by Strikeforce.
Even if Affliction went forward with the Belfort fight then there is no guarantee that the CSAC would license the bout against a middleweight and a heavyweight.
In the end it probably came down to money. With their main event a bust it is quite conceivable that it would be cheaper to scrap the whole thing then put on the show and lose money gate and PPV revenue.
Now the question remains whether Affliction can survive the cancellation or if this is the end of the road for the promotion.

Dana can add another name to his tombstone.

Who is going to...
Who is going to shell out money for seats at any future card they put on (if there are any) now that they have canceled two out of three shows?
They really had no business putting a Fedor/barnett card on anyway, especially without Arlovski somewhere on the ticket, I have a feeling he’s a bigger draw than Fedor despite how bad he sucks now…

i dont understand why they cancelled this event..josh barnett is not a draw here in the u.s.
i seriously doubt without him on the card the buys wouldve been a whole lot less, i was kinda warming up to the fact that belfort vs fedor was the main event, and the rest of the card was pretty decent…just fuckin hire monson and get the show on the road
