Stephan Bonnar wants to become a Patron of the Arts

"If this fighting thing doesn't work out I can always fall back on community college art modeling"

Stephan Bonnar may be struggling to win a fight but that doesn't mean he isn't diversifying his brand.

Bonnar recently launched a high-end painting company dubbed NGAUGE INC. (with Dana White's blessing of course). The goal is to produce mixed-media artwork for significant events within the UFC, like this one.

While some may see this is a bizarre attempt at expressing Bohemian sophistication --like when White bought a saber tooth tiger skull-- history has always been an important part of combat sports. It seems like half of HBO's documentaries surround a boxer and the era of America he represents: Johnson, Braddock, Louis, Frazier, Ali, Tyson etc. It only makes sense that Zuffa would be eager to capture memorable fights in pieces of art. Perhaps this will help infuse MMA into the cultural zeitgeist of America, like this painting did.

Still it is sad to see a fighter with a promising future in the UFC be 2-4 in his past six fights and now sells lithograph prints for $125 a pop.
