Ben Rothwell vs. Chase Gormley picked up by the UFC

"I am not that Big Ben!"

The latest bout from the cancelled Affliction "Trilogy" show to be picked up by a rival promotion is the Ben Rothwell Chase Gormley fight.

Rothwell (30-6) vs. Gormley (6-0) will take place at UFC 104 in Los Angeles. The fight card will be headlined by a light heavyweight championship bout between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. The addition of Rothwell and Gormley could add some much needed depth to the UFC heavyweight division. The tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter will also be adding a new crop of heavyweights.

Rothwell was a former IFL standout and many thought the UFC would pick him up after the IFL went bust. However Affliction got to Rothwell first and "Big Ben" fought and lost to Andrei Arlovski.

While Gormley is undefeated he has nowhere near the experience of the 27 year old Rothwell.

Good Pick Up

I think Rothwell will handle Gormley pretty easily. Then, it will be interesting to see how he competes with upper level heavyweights in the UFC. Personally, I think Heath Herring would be a good challenge plus that would be a really fun fight.

I think the winner of this fight will have to fight a TUF 10 contestant

Big Ben is a nice addition to the division. He’s no world beater but he finishes fights and should be easy to market. I’m just hoping Vitor and Gomi sign on now :)
