Lorenzo Fertitta flies to Croatia, offers Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic a contract

Perhaps the UFC is not above trying to bury news on a holiday weekend.

According to a new report Lorenzo Feritta recently flew to Croatia to offer Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic a new deal (Index.hr via Fighters Only).

Fertitta arrived in Zagreb, Croatia on a private plane this morning and proceeded straight to Filipovic's residence where the pair engaged in two hours of talks, according to Index.hr

"A source tells us that CroCop got an offer that is simply non-refusable," the article states. "CroCop will almost certainly look at the returning to the strongest MMA league in the world currently knows."

[...]

But Index.hr is reporting that the UFC is offering Filipovic more favourable terms. This could include an agreement to offer him more frequent fights than were previously on the table.

Filipovic recently fought for the UFC at UFC 99, the promotions first event in Germany. Mirko agreed to an unprecedented verbal contract for a one fight deal. After that expired Filipovic decided not to re-sign with the UFC opting to sign with the Japanese promotion, Dream. In the aftermath of UFC 99 UFC President, Dana White, was extremely vocal in his feelings of betrayal leading many to believe that Filipovic would never fight for the UFC again.

I hope CroCop is back for reals

the thing I want to see most in MMA is CroCop submitting Brock Lesnar.

Or just crushing the right side of his head like a watermelon. whatever works

Hey Saaby,
First let me welcome you to WKR and SBN! Hope to hear from you more often.

To your point about Cro Cop I def hope he comes back and return to form. I was a big fan of his in Pride and have been disappointed with him of late.

Thanks Zak!

Thanks Zak, I’ve been a big MMA fan for about 4 years, and I’ve lurked here and the Bloody Elbow for a long time.
As for CroCop, I was not really up with them before they folded, but like a lot Pride guys, he was absolutely amazing back then, and did a lot of unreal stuff.
The Al-Turk fight was not too bad, considering it WAS a comeback fight, and the eye-poke thing killed any chance of seeing definitely. So I’m glad he’s [probably] coming back, so that we can see if he still has it.
Plus, the irony of him submitting Brock would just be fantastic….

Aha! It is also nice when a lurker takes the plunge!

Completely agree with your points. I would suggest listening to Cage Cast episode 12 to listen to me and Spencer talk more about Cro Cop and the UFC’s HW division.
