Around SBN: Tiger Woods Makes His 2012 PGA Tour Debut

Nothing new in CNBC's "Ultimate Fighting: Fistful of Dollars"

CNBC aired an updated version of their Ultimate Fighting: Fistful of Dollars documentary and there wasn't a whole lot of new information/reporting. WKR was going to write a full review but since so little was new we decided it would be better to do some quick hits.

- CNBC did pass along some interesting numbers. According to the UFC, revenue in 2008 was $275 million a 37% increase from two years earlier.

- CNBC characterization of the Loretta Hunt-Dana White rant incident was less than stellar. It seemed more like an unfortunate footnote in an obituary rather than talking about what actually went down.

- Some scenes in Germany felt straight out of Dana White's video blogs, well, they were straight out of the video blogs

- Another big omission was the fact that Station Casinos have filed for Chapter 11. Granted some of the segments shown were simply re-runs of the previous airing but it doesn't exactly make for accurate reporting.

- Rich Franklin is a perfect front man to introduce skeptical viewers to the UFC. How many other sports can boast they have a former high school math teacher as a former champion? Now that is a story even Rick Reilly can get behind.

- Rich Franklin lost a piece of his eye back at UFC 93. Someone call Oliver Stone because I smell a movie script.

- UFC video game segment touches on all of the positives but none of the negatives. For instance lifetime rights to fighter's images and rights and the Jon Fitch story

- Tapout segment just felt weird.

- Comparing the "skill" displayed in Mayweather vs. De La Hoya and Liddell vs. Jackson II is a huge intellectual stretch.  One went to a decision after twelve rounds the other ended in a minute.

- CNBC didn't appear ready for Affliction folding. Don't worry guys, we weren't ready either.

- Basically the "update" was some interviews from UFC 99 while briefly mentioning some recent events. Nothing new or in-depth that hardcore fans don't already know about.

Maybe the Loretta Hunt incident means more to you than the rest of the world. The Station casino story had little to do with anything, they only mentioned that the Fertittas were connected to it. I think it would have been unnecessary to go into Station’s situation as it has little to do with the UFC. Everything else, I agree with you on.

fair criticisms

well I mentioned it because CNBC said “highly successful Station Casinos” seems important to mention that it is now bankrupt.

I do believe that the Loretta Hunt/Dana White rant is a significant story and deserves more than a foot note

I think it gets dealt with once and then everyone moves on. Your sense of journalism is what makes it bigger for you. I think it was unfortunate but old news and nothing new to be gleaned from rehashing it. But I also think Loretta is hardly unbiased towards the UFC which you probably don’t agree with.

I thought it was significant bc we had never seen anything like it in any other sport.

But Loretta does have a bias in the sense she writes for a website that is banned by the UFC from being credentialed. That creates a bias technically I am in the same boat.

She has voiced her opinion that the UFC is the MMA promotion and deserves the majority of Sherdog’s coverage.

The segments from Germany weren’t pulled from Dana White’s video blogs – we actually were there and shot it ourselves. As you can see from a few of Dana’s Twitter blogs, his guy was shooting us shooting our walking with Dana. My cameraman was thrilled to see himself on YouTube.

Thank you for watching and carefully enough to comment with such detail.

thanks

I knew they weren’t directly pulled, but the shots were essentially the same shots from the Vlogs, which was my point. If I articulated that poorly I apologize. But in my mind that was important to point out that these scenes were very similar

I’m just thrilled you watched that closely!! The mob scene that surrounded us when we walked outside to do the interview was unbelieveable – and I hope that came across in the video. Hey – if Dana used similiar feel for his Vlog, guess I did something right :-)

Thank you again for watching and taking the time to post.
