Update on "twenty" Affliction fighters
Affliction's collapse left a lot of fighters out of work with questions regarding their future employment.
Fairly soon after the demise Inside Fights reported that "twenty" Affliction fighters were headed over to the UFC. WKR has been updating our original post on the subject as transfers are announced. WKR thought it would be prudent to recap the recent signings.
The following fighters have signed with the UFC,
- Ben Rothwell
- Chase Gromley
- Dan Lauzon
- Rafaello Oliveria
- Vitor Belfort
- Paul Daley
Two fighters did sign with the WEC,
- Javier Vazquez
- L.C. Davis
- Mark Hominick
All six fighters were slate to fight on Affliction "Trilogy." Rothwell and Gromley will fight at UFC 104, Lauzon and Oliveria will fight at UFC 103 and Davis and Vazques will fight at WEC 42.
Six out of the reported twenty who have signed with Zuffa. Also, Paul Daley is rumored to have signed with the UFC though there is a conflicting report.
We also know that Jay Hieron and Gegard Mousasi have signed with Strikeforce. Renato "Babalu" Sobral was also slated to fight for Affliction and has moved to Strikefore though Sobral previously fought for the promotion and holds the Strikeforce light heavyweight title.
WKR will continuing updating both posts as more information becomes available.

This is in line with the UFC’s talent strategy. Pick up younger, lesser known fighters to build into stars as opposed to established names who come with high price tags.

it reminds me of the Steelers (stupid Cowboys).
But it is also interesting how they are picking up fights, not just fighters. Its almost as if these are now audtions on UFC cards.
It is also an implicit admission that talent exists outside the UFC.
