Cage Cast 20: A look back at Dana White's 'Huge Announcement!'
Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday because at WKR we took time out of our movie posting schedule to record a podcast to discuss yesterday's press conference. There was a lot to chew on so this Cage Cast lasts about fifty minutes.
As always you can stream the podcast here, subscribe to our RSS feed and please check us out on iTunes and leave a review.
First we talk about Fedor (I know your sick of it and we are too). While there was no real news that came out of the press conference we did learn some new information. Without another game changing event (like Affliction folding) we will never see Fedor in the UFC. Dana White has washed his hands of Fedor and there is the possibility that the $30 million contract rumor was actually a PR move for the UFC to walk away from "The Last Emperor."
After ten minutes of Fedor talk we transition over to Tito Ortiz and his new contract with the UFC. WKR tries to figure out what changed since Tito left the Zuffa family and why White would bury the hatchet. Ortiz will likely fight in November or December and against Mark Coleman. We wrap up the Tito talk by discussing the possibility of Ortiz fighting for the title. Yes, it could happen!
Then we talk about Vitor Belfort and his upcoming fight with Rich Franklin at UFC 103. This fight will be at a catch-weight of 195lbs. which inevitably starts a discussion about a cruiser-weight division. On the other hand does this mean that Rich Franklin is really just Anderson Silva's gatekeeper?
Dan Henderson will actually be given the much earned title shot against Anderson Silva. WKR discusses what this means for Henderson, Silva and the other top two middleweights who are fighting this fall.
Finally we talk about business news. White claimed UFC 100 garnered 25 million viewers in Mexico and the idea of a show in Mexico City was floated. WKR thinks this is a horrible idea as Mexico city is about a mile above sea level and has awful pollution. Also we touch on the ESPN U.K. being the new English broadcast partner with the UFC.
Enjoy the show! Next week UFC 101: Declaration talk
