WEC outshines the UFC

Well I certainly didn't see that coming

Comparing UFC 101 and WEC 42 is a difficult task. Ultimately most fans know more about the UFC brand and UFC fighters than the WEC and that will be the metric in their compaisons. But that doesn't change the fact that WEC 42 completely kicked UFC 101's ass last night.

Besides being free (being on the Internet we love free shit) WEC 42 provided a plethora of high-intensity and highly entertaining bouts. Compare that to the TUF veteran duds of UFC 101 and I will gladly take the bantam and featherweights of the WEC. For crying out loud, the fact that a fight in the stands was more interesting than an under card bout speaks volumes about UFC 101 as an event.

Dominick Cruz and Joseph Benavidez's fight was the most entertaining decision I have seen it at least three months if not the entire year. Compared it to the overused matches of UFC lightweight wrestlers to start off a PPV, WEC 42 delivered in a big way.

On top of all that MMA fans were privy to one of the biggest upsets of 2009 when Brian Bowles demolished Miguel Torres. That was only Torres' second career loss and the WEC bantamweight division just got a lot more interesting.

After watching WEC 42 how can you not love World Extreme Cagefighting?

I agree. As a matter of fact, in my opinion, WEC events have been better than UFC events since Zuffa bought it, and that’s by a fairly large margin. I have yet to be bored or unimpressed by a WEC event.

I agree. The lighter weight classes generally have better fights imo. The bantanweight division in the WEC is my favourite division in the sport for sure. It’s just a pity that the 135 and 145 pound fighters don’t get more exposure

if it wasn’t for the villefort fight and the mccrory fight in the prelims, i would be majorly pissed at the card as well. i do feel hosed on the forrest griffin ridiculousness though.
