Anderson Silva doesn't want to fight Dan Henderson
Looks like Dan Henderson is on the verge of being screwed again,
Soares said he doesn't consider Henderson to be the top contender in the UFC's middleweight division.
"If he wants to be a valid contender, I think he should fight the winner of Nate Marquardt against Demian Maia [at UFC 102], and that will provide a true No.1 contender."
When asked what he plans to do if or when the UFC offers a Henderson title fight, Soares quickly replied that, "We're going to explain to them our situation," and that he thinks White "will listen."
The MMA Fanhouse report goes on to quote Soares asking for a "valid contender" and unless one is found Silva will continue to fight at light heavyweight.
Right not it appears that there is some serious jockeying for position going on between Silva's camp and Zuffa.

I Agree
The real #1 contender should be the winner of Henderson vs. (Maia vs. Marquardt).
All 3 guys have a legitimate reason for a title shot. Henderson probably edges out everybody with better name value after UFC 100 but Maia is only fighter that did not face Silva.
Marquardt deserves a shot because he says so, while he has solid recent victories . . . Horn, Kampmann and Gouveia isn’t really something to go crazy about and at the end of the day he lost to Leites.
Henderson defeated Franklin*, Palhares and Bisping. His only dominant victory was against an over-hype key to the U.K. Michael Bisping. Let’s be honest, he squeaked by Franklin.
If Demian Maia defeats Marquardt his name should automatically place his name at the top of the list. He has a perfect record of 10 wins with 5 in the Octagon.

psssh. Anderson can talk down to Hendo when he actually holds two belt titles in the same organization…and it’s in Pride where they don’t drug test or test or screen for steroids….like Hendo managed to do when he knocked out Vanderlei. All Anderson did for the most part in Pride was win a few, and get flying scissor takedown’d by Ryo Chonan then heel hooked.
Anderson has an impressive record to be sure, but Hendo is still packing a better resume than the Spider. Period.
Gatti. Dekkers. Pele. Aoki. Kang. Vanderlei.

psssshhh . . . (rebuttal rant)
They have similar records Anderson 24-4 while Henderson 25-7.
Anderson has 2 losses via submission while Henderson has 3 losses via submission.
Better resume? Let’s cook numbers and look at their resumes.
He stopped many former champions Franklin*, Marquardt**, Henderson, Sakurai***, and Griffin
-———————————-
*Franklin?!? The dude is a phenomenal MMA fighter. He’s 25 and 4. He was only stopped by two fighters, Silva and Machida. Dan Henderson did defeat Franklin but he didn’t beat him.
**Look at Nate the Great Marquardt, King of Pancrase, record (25-7) before facing Silva. He’s only been stopped twice by submission prior to Silva.
Ok, he didn’t stop Sakurai but he was the first dude to beat Sakurai when he was undefeated with a record of (18 – 0 – 2) Wins – Losses – Draw

Ok Henderson is great and fought many top guys, he’s a legend but he’s not Anderson Silva. First let’s be clear, Henderson is 1-1 against Wanderlei Silva, 1-1 against Big Nog.
One would figure if Wanderlei demolished Rampage twice then the concurrent weight class champion of Pride should easily beat Rampage for the UFC LWH championship, after all Wanderlei stopped ‘Page twice. As we all know MMath doesn’t work, and Rampage has excuses for those Pride fights. My point, Dan Henderson comes to the UFC as this heralded legend and loses two consecutive fights in an effort to get the championship belts. He’s currently 3 – 2 in the UFC. Oh did I mention that he loss to Anderson Silva AND Silva is one of the only 3 dudes to STOP Henderson.
Note PRIDE 33 was tested for drugs because it was in Nevada state.

… and Silva is 1-0 against Henderson already. If I’m 100-1 but wasn’t able to last 2 rounds against Silva, I don’t care if my overall record is more impressive, he still beat me. And Silva still beat Henderson, recently, in less than 2 rounds.
I think Marquartdt/Maia winner has a much better case for a title shot right now than Henderson. I appreciate the “age” consideration and the “reputation” consideration for Henderson, but I totally agree with Silva and his management on this one. Especially if Silva is seriously planning on ending his career in a few more fights; make those fights be against the currently most deserving challengers, not against somebody who already got a shot recently and has done very little to show any likely change in outcome with a rematch.
Also note, If Henderson dominated and stopped Franklin like he did Bisping . . . then Henderson would have a strong argument for title contention but . . . split decision doesn’t cut it.

I think Hendo does have an argument for contention bc he did much better against silva then Franklin.
Franklin’s bread and butter at 185 was the clinch where he could bully people around.

The fact that he did better than Franklin does nothing in my book. We’re not comparing whether Henderson or Franklin more deserves a shot. We’re comparing Henderson to Marquardt and Maia.
Amongst those three, Henderson most recently lost to Silva, inflicted no damage at all, failed to survive the second round, and has done nothing since then to indicate that a rematch might differ from the first fight. He took a very controversial decision from Franklin — the same Franklin that Silva has embarrassed twice took Henderson to decision and arguably won that fight — and highlight reeled Michael Bisping — who appeared to have no gameplan and walked right into Henderson’s best tool. There’s no reason to believe Henderson stands a better chance now than he did the first time.
Marquardt’s shot at Silva was a long time ago and Marquardt has put together some solid wins since then, has become a physical monster, and has arguably improved his game substantially. There’s at least some reason to think he might stand a better chance now than he did the first time.
Maia is undefeated, has looked dominant in every fight in the UFC, and presents an ability to take stand up guys down and work imaginative submissions that nobody else in the weight class is even close to. Not only has he not had a first shot yet, but there’s at least some reason to speculate that his style might cause problems and that he might stand a better chance against Silva than either Henderson or Marquardt.
Until somebody can demonstrate to me what Henderson has done since tapping in the second round to Silva that shows he now deserves a rematch, I’m with Silva’s camp on this one. I like Henderson. I just don’t think he’s done much of anything since losing to Silva to warrant jumping back to the front of the line for another shot at Silva’s belt.
