How cursed is this card?
Let's recap: A heavyweight title fight was suppose to be on the card, though the champion was still hurt from a bar room brawl. A lightweight title fight is now an interim title fight as the real champion is still out with an injury. And a welterweight title fight was scrapped as the #1 contender skipped two drug tests.
Sounds pretty cursed to me.
Still the fact that the card has four exciting bouts is definitely a positive and Strikeforce should be applauded for salvaging what could have been a Dunkirk.
On to the actual fight card!
The first bout we talk about is the interim lightweight title bout between Gilbert Melendez will fight Mitsuhiro Ishida. Zak is worried because he totally forgot that Ishida beat Melendez back in 2007.
Then we talk about Gegard Mousasi vs. Renato "Babalu" Sboral. This fight was captured by Strikeforce after Affliction folded. Sobral is the current Strikeforce light heavyweight champion and will his veteran status overcome the young gun who just happens to 25 victories?
Next we talk about Jay Hieron vs. Jesse Taylor. This fight has firework potential. Both fighters like to stand and trade though Taylor has questionable submission defense. Both Spencer and Zak are high on Hieron.
Finally we talk about Gina Carano vs. Cris "Cyborg" Santos. Zak puts his foot in his mouth fairly quickly (he has been doing that a lot lately) but after a few laughs we discuss Cyborg's power versus Carano's size. Cyborg's one loss comes via submission so could Carano take this fight to the ground looking for the submission? Also, if Carano loses will this be the end of female MMA? WKR doesn't buy that argument.
Thanks for listening and check out more previews.
