Cosmetic Observation of the Night: Cyborg, Strikeforce, Carano and Twitter

One of the fascinating things about Twitter is that you can instantly see what people are talking about with the "trending topics" list.
Last night WKR kept a close eye on this list and assumed that media darling, Gina Carano, would be near or at the top for most of the night. That wasn't the case.
In fact "Cyborg" and "Strikeforce" were trending before Carano and when she finally appeared she was below both Strikeforce and Cyborg. It wasn't until the fight was over that Gina jumped to the the top of the list.
While this is simply a cosmetic observation (how does one analyze marketing power from Twitter trending topics?) it is interesting development none-the-les; as it indicates that both Strikeforce and Cyborg garnered considerable interest on the social networking site. A pessimist would question how much of that interest was legitimate as we must consider spammers that try to hijack the trending topic function.
Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg coverage
This graph below shows how ridiculous it is to put too much stock in Twitter but it was still an interesting result simply because what was expected didn't occur.
