Where is the rest of Mousasi's money?
It is being reported the Mousasi was only paid $2,000 for his fight on Saturday night. Either this is a mistake or he is making money from M-1 Global. I am curious to find out what his deal with M-1 is as he better get a significant chunk of the profits. M-1 lied to their client and put their own interests ahead of his own to get him to sign with Strikeforce. This article is not looking into if the UFC offered him a contract, if Strikeforce was honest with him, or what M-1 supposodley did. My point is that if Gegard joined Strikeforce because he thought a 40/40 contract was not enough then how is $2,000 the right amount? Can someone tell me where the rest of the money is coming from?

$2,000 U.S. is worth 748,808.2 Armenian Dram.
Don’t know what the cost of living is in Armenia but that is a lot of $$$
Then again Mousasi lived most of his life in the Netherlands and they are on the Euro so he was only paid 1,415 Euro….

Hmmm...
What kind of cut would he get?
They already lied to him about the UFC offer (or lack thereof) so who honestly believes that M-1 would hold up their end of any “promised” deal.

Just wow....
I don’t care what kind of under the table agreement Mousasi has set up with M-1, there is no way he should have signed a contract that pays him only $2,000 on the books.

There’s a decent explanation for it over at BE. It still seems shady to me but whatevs that’s M-1 for ya.

Interesting article about Mousasi over at Cage Potato. Basically, it’s saying that Little Nog would have been the only light heavyweight to give Mousasi competition. They then joked about Jake O’Brien now being available.
The more I thought about it, that may not be a joke at all. Mousasi hasn’t faced a true high level American wrestler before. Am I the only one who thinks that, if this fight is made, it’s not outside the realm of possibility for O’Brien to pull off a lay and pray upset, much like he did with Heath Herring.
I think O’Brien would be a good fight.
Vladimir Matyushenko and King Mo are possibilites too.
Or Strikeforce could drop him to MW and have a nice 185 division….

I think everybody’s is. I didn’t know until today that the UFC signed Gilbert Yvel. It was just mentioned in passing in one of the articles about “Minotoro.”
i didn’t even hear that.
interesting signing considering his past although he has cleaned up his act considerably.

Salary perhaps
One hypothesis is that Mousasi is a M-1 employee and that he receives a salary from them for the duration of his contract regardless if he fights or not. They basically get all revenues that Mousasi gets (sponsorship, fight money etc) and they manage it and take their cut. This is a model that a boxing promotion in Canada used to do, which is good for fighters if they get injured or something bad they still get money regularly but at the same time they don’t have the same kind of control over what’s going on (and can get screwed pretty badly if the promotion/agent is an ass…
