Rumor of the Day: Shane Carwin vs. Brock Lesnar at UFC 106 [Update]

Two really big, really strong, really angry men...

Two really big, really strong, really angry men...

A report from MMAMadness has the MMA blogosphere buzzing with rumor-mongering and WKR wants in on the fun.

According to MMAMadness's sources, Lesnar has agreed to fight Shane Carwin at UFC 106 in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 21st.

Carwin was scheduled to fight Cain Velasquez at UFC 104 in Los Angeles. Many saw this fight as a potential number one contender bout.

WKR has no idea if this is true and is simply passing along the rumor, or in other words, gossiping.

[Update: Note by Zak Woods, 08/20/09 12:23 PM EDT ]

MMA Fanhouse and Fighter's Only are both reporting the fight as a done deal.

If this is true it is very smart. It allows them to keep Velasquez as a title contender or give him another fight for development sake. With Velasquez and the winner of couture/nogueira the UFC has a few title fights on deck.

I think this really shows that the UFC schedule had Fedor pencilled in for Nov

Fighter’s Only is saying the fight is a done deal. Should be a great fight as long as it lasts. I think Lesnar has looked more impressive so far but Carwin hits like a freight train. Looking forward to it

I read on MMA Junkie that Cain Velasquez will still fight at UFC 104 against an opponent to be named later. I’m thinking it might be a former Affliction guy like Paul Buentello or Gilbert Yvel.

i think buentello (maybe) and especially yvel will finish cain off. kongo really blew that fight by getting taken down when he had him hurt badly.

i may be in the minority

but i like carwin big in this. i cant wait to see the line.

lesners standup is pretty dreadful and once carwin connects its curtains for brock. brock was stunned a few time with mir, if mir had any take down defense at all he would have won that fight.

i wonder what the thinking was in picking carwin over cain. i think cain has the bigger name right now and its a better matchup for brock style wise.
