Ironic Forrest Griffin Quote

Well, this is funny

Well, this is funny

Robert K, of Bigoddsmike, passes along this quote from Forrest Griffin's book Got Fight? It's just a wee bit ironic,

"... you don't want to be that guy who quits in the ring - that's unforgivable. If you quit because you don't want to get hit anymore, you took the hairy vagina way out. If you want to be a man, take the hits and get knocked the fuck out. My philosophy on getting knocked out is that it renders you unconscious and numb, so why worry about it."

Ummm.......this is a tad bit awkward.....

In all fairness this was before he fought Anderson Silva and his patented fade away jab knock out.

I’m really interested in reading this book now!! I’m sure there are more quotes that will pop up

Poor guy. He’ll be dealing with shit for this knockout for a long time. Still amusing though.

I am really wondering will he ever explain what occurred during the last knock down? He was waving his hands like he was saying ‘no mas!’ or something. A matter of fact, I’m wondering if he ever plans on discussing the fight because I am sure that everybody who interviews him will definitely ask questions about UFC 101.

I think it may be a misconception that he was waving off the ref or any of that “no mas” stuff. To me it looked like we was trying to defend his face from more GnP, but he was only hanging on to consciousness by a thread and had no idea what was really going on, it was just instinct taking over.

Had the ref not stepped in and Silva didn’t pursue to the ground, I think he would have tried to get up and keep going until Silva separated him from his senses for real.

Admittedly I am a big Forrest Griffin fan, but I think it was a situation similar to when Chris Leben fought Silva. Everyone, including Silva, thought Leben was out with the first knockdown. But Leben instead got up, motioned to the ref that he was ok, tried to keep going and then proceeded to get KTFO with a knee to the face. I think Forrest would have tried to do something similar but he was hurt worse than Leben, and the ref saw that Forrest really couldn’t intelligently defend himself and stepped in.

I could easily be wrong, but I prefer to give Forrest the benefit of the doubt because I think he has earned at least that.

Ominous, I hear you. He definitely deserves the benefit of the doubt.

I thought that’s interesting about Silva, he’s one of the only fighters that don’t go in with an intense feral violent blood-lust to smash his opponent after he knocked the down. Some fighters, well I think, are clearly aware that they KO-or put their opponents to sleep, I really don’t get why they continue to attempt to beat an already beaten opponent.

I like Rampage, but I thought those extra shots against Wanderlei were unnecessary. He was clearly out. But I understand, keep going until the referee ends the fight because you never know.

Griffin’s chin isn’t the strongest (not flaming) and we’ve seen what Silva has done to people with iron jaws. Quite possible he was just running on instinct.

Another interesting Forrest quote
“I don’t want anything to do with that guy, nothing at all”

I understand Forrest was talking about not liking Machida’s style so much. he made this statement prior to Machida-Thiago Silva, but he also did mention that Machida is really hard to figure out.
