WEC 43 Postponed!
To all Ohio MMA fans, it is officially time to freak out,
Las Vegas, NV (USA) - World Extreme Cagefighting® announced today the postponement of its Sept. 2 card. An injury to main event fighter Ben Henderson forced the postponement of the event.
The entire card has been rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10 at a venue to be announced at a later date. The event will be broadcast live on VERSUS.
Ticket refunds for the Sept. 2 event can be obtained at the point of purchase.
As someone who was looking forward to catching a WEC event live this is beyond disappointing.
Still, maybe Youngstown wasn't the best choice of venues. The population of the city is below 100,000 with an employment rate near 15%. Really the whole Cleavland-Pittsburgh-Akron region has been hit hard by the recent economic downturn; a whole region that Zuffa and the WEC was targeting with the Youngstown location. Just check out this tweet.

Those fanbases really don't mix very well.
It appears that even Zuffa is not immune to the injury bug derailing an entire fight card.

In reality, Zuffa LET the injury bug derail the card. Let’s face the fact, they had a perfectly healthy, to my knowledge, “Razor” Rob McCullough ready to step in and have a rematch of his fight of the year candidate with Cerrone. That fight would’ve been far more compelling than Cerrone steamrolling Henderson.
i agree.
i dont think they were selling tix. Cerrone as the headliner in a new town…? i dont think thats the brightest of ideas. I think it will end up in Albuquerque. The last WEC event there went pretty darn well.

Although it is generally a good card, I thought Henderson’s main event spot was unusual. Plus, whenever Zuffa goes to a new city, they try to load the cards with local talent, and I can’t recall if there are any OH guys. Perhaps the Direct TV impasse combined with poor ticket sales led to the postponment?
