Cage Cast 28: UFC 102 Preview
This edition of Cage Cast was primed and ready for your Monday morning commute but then disaster stuck and it wouldn't upload. There are still some technical difficulties to work out but you can stream this weeks edition of cage cast below.
Hopefully next week all the technical stuff will be worked out.
Anyways on to UFC 102: Couture vs. Nogueira which means preview time. We break down the entire televised card looking for story lines and possible avenues of victory for each fighter.
WKR did notice that the 102 fight card is extremely heavy. There are no lightweights, only one welterweight bout, while there are four middleweight fights, two light heavyweight fights and a whopping four heavyweight fights including the main event. Talk about a heavy card.
We begin our previews with a look at the Krzysztof Soszynski Brandon Vera fight. While Soszynski has pulled a string of upsets this will be his toughest fight against a former heavyweight standout.
WKR believes that the Nate Marquardt Demian Maia will be the most intriguing bout of the evening. Don't confuse that statement with most exciting as Maia will look to pull guard and Marquardt will try to avoid anything that begins with a J an ends with an iu-Jitsu. Still this fight has major implications on the middleweight division.
Next we talk about a middleweight fight between Chris Leben and Jake Rosholt. Spencer is pretty confident that Leben will be able to handle Rosholt but Zak thinks we could see some old fashion wrestling from the former WEC fighter.
The co-main event is a light heavyweight bout between Keith Jardine and Thiago Silva. Both fighters are near the bottom of the top-ten so a the winner here will be back on track for a title shot (with still significant work to do thought). The loser will undoubtedly be branded a gate-keeper.
WKR gives our preliminary sleeper picks and both Spencer and Zak think Todd Duffee could have a special fight.
Finally we preview the main event between a former UFC champion and the only man ever to hold a title in both Pride and the UFC: Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
Plus there is a surprising prediction regarding the future of lose of the main event bout.
