Rolling Stone's "Athletes Without Fear" features Gina Carano and Georges St. Pierre
Anytime a MMA fighter is put on an equal level as football, baseball and basketball players MMA fans get giddy and rightfully so. MMA has been on a long march towards mainstream viability and the latest chapter is a feature in Rolling Stone Magazine (via MMA Memories) discussing "athletes without fear."
Both George St. Pierres and Gina Carano are featured on the list that includes Larry Fitsgerlad, Ron Artest (not sure how this is a good thing), Troy Polamalu, Tim Tebow and more.
Before you salivate too much about Rolling Stone featuring two MMA fighters, the piece also features motocross, surfing, auto-racing and more "extreme sports". Not that it doesn't take a tremendous athlete to surf a forty-foot wave or doing a back flip on a motor cycle but it is important to keep perspective on these lists. I don't think many people would say surfing is a mainstream sport yet.
