Details about Couture's new contract

Photo

The most interesting detail to come out of the Randy Couture's new contract is when he signed the contract. According to Michael Rome it was last night minutes before he fought.

I am not sure if anyone else remembers Dana White's rant against Loretta Hunt but I seem to remember a part of it where White said there was no reason why managers or legal representation should be in a fighter's locker room. Yet Randy Couture is signing a contract extension before fighting. Seems like a decision and an action where someone would want legal advice present.

We already saw Alessio Sakara signing something after he defeated Thales Leites at UFC 101.

This is besides the point but interesting none-the-less.

Couture's deal is a seven-fight extension, which began with the Nogueira fight. The contract lasts 28-months and essentially locks Randy into the UFC for the rest of his career. It is rumored to be similar to the deal that the UFC offered to Fedor.

Are you considering the possibility, him and his representatives were negotiating the extension previously and all was needed was his signature?

But, you making out like they offered the terms to him out the blue, like “Randy great fight tonight, oh by the way, here is the contract, we need you to sign it right now.” Come on Zak, you’re making this more of an issue than it really should like you do about the Locker room bonus.

Of course they arent negotiating behind the scenes.

I am addressing White’s comments where he said there is no reason to have managers and lawyers of fighters behind the scenes. Now we are finding out that fighters are signing contracts at UFC events.

I dont know about you but I want my legal representation with me when I am signing a contract. It is perfectly reasonable and expected to have that basic level of legal advice with you.

maybe the deals are so good that they dont need to have a manager or they manage themselves…..randy is probably getting 500,000 a fight plus a couple million on each ppv

oops found this....

“Sam Spira, Couture’s attorney, refused to comment on the compensation under the new deal, but confirmed the deal and noted that Couture was thrilled with the deal and excited to finish his career in the UFC. Matt Walker, Couture’s sports agent, also confirmed the existence of the deal and believes this will be a great milestone in Couture’s career.”
