Cage Cast 29: UFC 102 Recap

On this episode we recap UFC 102. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira defeated Randy Couture. Spencer thinks this is a potential Fight of the Year  where as Zak maintains his jaded grouchiness by arguing that Nogueira vs. Couture was two old guys fighting at 25mph. Still it was a great fight.

We ask whether Nogueira is on track for a title shot after Shane Carwin and who Randy will fight next.

Next we talk about Keith Jardine and his ninety second threshold. Jardine's loss knocks him down but not out of the UFC. Now the question is how good is Thiago Silva?

Chris Leben looked tired and slow in his bout with Jake Rosholt, perhaps some ring rust or the withdrawal of steroids.

If either Nate Marquardt or Demian Maia was going to jump Dan Henderson in the middleweight division they would need a spectacular finish and that is exactly what Marquardt did. Spencer thinks Nate earned a title shot while Zak believes Dan should come first. Regardless of what WKR thinks it appears that Anderson Silva's camp wants Henderson and Marquardt to fight for the right of number one contender.

Finally Brandon Vera is not good, where as Todd Duffee is a great heavyweight prospect.

I just hope that Noguiera killed all war-torn warrior meme that people so easily accepted after his last performance against Mir. Great fight, they both fought great. Zak, at 25mph, Couture can hold his own against any heavyweight in my opinion. PLEASE give Rodrigo’s striking some credit, although he did leave his face exposed for punishment.

I picked Jardine.
Is Thiago Silva really good? NO! His style of aggression leaves him very exposed for a tit-for-tat exchange that won’t work against smart, tactical strikers . . . or even lucky ones.

Chris Leben. I wouldn’t kick him out of the UFC but I think he only deserves to be on the preliminary cards. He’s definitely a tough fighter but that’s about it.

Nathan Marquardt vs. Dan Henderson, nuff said. OR!!!
Silva vs. Henderson
followed by Silva vs. Marquardt
Hopefully Vitor Belfort really makes a strong statement against Franklin, because NO ONE has yet, that includes Henderson.

Duffee look great but let’s actually see him in a fight before we jump the gun.

Vera, how many more boring, so-so fights are we going to see him in? He looks very apprenhensive and scared to pull the trigger.
