Cage Cast 22: UFC 101 Preview

Today's episode is a preview of UFC 101.

Those looking for a streaming version can check it out here, our RSS feed and don't forget to subscribe to us on iTunes and leave a review. As always we appreciate feedback so shoot us an email at watchkalibrun@gmail.com. Run time is 42 minutes.

First we talk about the sleeper fights on the preliminary card. Spencer thinks the rematch between Aaron Riley and Shane Nelson will be a good fight. Zak thinks that Thales Leites vs. Alessio Sakara could be a sleeper bout, at least if Sakara wins it would be a huge indictment on the UFC 97 main event (Zak is still bitter). The battle of George's could be interesting as Sotiropoulos is an Aussie and Zuffa has floated the idea about the UFC heading to Australia.

On to the televised card!

The first bout is between Josh Neer and Kurt Pellgrino. This is the classic high competitive lightweight bout to start the televised card. Should be entertaining bout though Spencer feels this should be on an Ultimate Fight Night.

Ricardo Almeida vs. Kendall Grove is the second televised bout of the evening. Both fighters are inconsistent quantities. Almeida took a four year lay-off from 2004 to 2008 and hasn't looked like a top middleweight. Kendall Grove also went through an epic two fight losing streak where he looked like he didn't belong in the UFC. WKR isn't really sure what to expect from either fighter at UFC 101.

Next is Amir Sadollah's long await UFC debut. Well he did fight at the TUF 7 finale but that really doesn't count. Is Johny Hendricks a can for Amir who hasn't fought in eighteen months? Do we believe that Sadollah is a god fighter or just a green product from a weak season of TUF?

The co-main event of the evening is a light heavyweight bout between Forrest Griffin and Anderson Silva. Does Griffin have a chance to win this fight? Does that mean he will, probably not. Of course that depends on the Anderson Silva of old to show up and actually fight.

The final fight of the evening is a lightweight title fight between Champion B.J. Penn and Kenny Florian. Florian has been waiting 9 months for this fight but Zak thinks he is simply out of his league. Spencer is a little more high on Florian's chances.
