Around SBN: The Gift Of The 2003 Tigers

The debut episode of season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter crushed Spike TV's ratings record for original programming.

Episode won garnered 4.1 million viewers, besting the previous TUF high of 2.8 million viewers during the season three finale in 2006.

While this is great news for Spike and Zuffa we still have to wait till week two to see if they can sustain these numbers.

Kimbo Slice = ratings

I’d bet a month’s salary that the CBS ratings for Fedor won’t come close to Kimbo’s.

i doubt kimbo fight’s next episode as well. they will probably hold off as long as possible and when he fights they will hype the shit out of the episode to get huge ratings. It will be the only week they flat out tell us who is fighting

Why not, I would. They already try to hype the next episode like Rashad will use control to expose Kimbo.

Most huge Hollywood Blockbusters rarely do better than their opening week numbers.

Long Response: Sorry

T.V. and Movies are inherently different. A television show provides viewers with a brand new episode every week. Movies have one story and people go to see it opening weekend. They would be going back to see the same film. T.V series highest rated episodes are their season openers (this past week), the finale, and special guest stars. Kimbo fighting acts as a special guest star for a normal tv show.

In regards to not having him fight early: There are definitely people watching the show only because Kimbo is on it. Unfortunate, but true. If he got lost his first fight they would not air it early because those people would stop watching the show. If he loses his first fight (worst case scenario for UFC and Spike) the network will delay the episode so they can hold viewers for longer.

Promoting that episode: Anyone who is vaguely interested in Slice on the show will definitely tune in if they know he is fighting and Spike/UFC will want everyone to know. There is no point creating doubt about the episode Slice fights in as that will draw huge numbers, maybe bigger than the premier (not guaranteed, but decent shot)

@Zach Krantz,
You’re definitely making a whole lot of sense.
No need to be sorry for the long response, it will be read or ignored. Your response is much better than unsupported, unsubstantiated 3 word opinionated quips. So, I’ll just say thanks for the response!
