Phil Baroni vs. Amir Sadollah in the works for UFC 106

Photo

Inside Fights is reporting that Amir Sadollah (1-1) will square off against Phil Baroni (13-11) at UFC 106 in Las Vegas on November 21st.

Sadollah had a Cinderella run on the seventh season of The Ultimate Fighter but since those magical weeks in 2008 the glass slipper has fallen off. Sadollah, who was an amateur on the reality show, immediately broke down with chronic injuries. Eventually Sadollah dropped from middleweight to welterweight and finally made his Ocatgon return at UFC 101. Unfortunatelly Amir was KO'd in under thirty seconds.

Phil Baroni is a former UFC, Pride, Icon, Strikeforce and EliteXC fighter. Basically Baroni has been around the block and not in the fun way. Phil fought on CBS during MMA's primetime debut and Baroni also fought on Showtime twice though Strikeforce let "The New York Bad Ass" go after a recent loss to Joe Riggs. The UFC immediately swooped in and signed Baroni.

Rough fight for Sadollah. He didn’t show much of a chin in the last fight and, despite his lack of conditioning and ground skills, Baroni hits hard.

A reason the UFC might be signing all of these people, other than to keep them from EA, is a need for name quality fighters with little impact on the championship rankings. A network TV card could be filled with the Kimbos and Baronis of the world and the serious title challengers would still be on ppv.
